About Us

Occupy Oswego is a group of concerned American citizens joined in solidarity with the global Occupy Wall Street movement, and unaffiliated with any political party, candidate, or ideology. Our members are diverse, free-minded individuals who have independently recognized that the powers of organized wealth emanating from Wall Street have unjustly and heinously corrupted the government of the United States to their own ends, and subverted the constitutionally mandated right of ordinary Americans to control the destiny of their country. This movement is an exercise in direct democracy. Because we can no longer trust our elected officials to represent our interests sincerely, we have organized ourselves in protest of Wall Street and the government until these institutions have been brought to justice for defrauding the public, cronyism, profiteering, conspiracy, collusion, willful corruption of the legislative and judicial process, and a host of other grievances.

The value of our homes, our retirements, our taxes, our jobs, have been stolen to provide the super-rich with more wealth and privilege than has existed at any time in our  nation’s history. The disparity between rich and poor is greater than it has ever been.

We want our country back. We are the 99% of Americans who have been robbed of our franchise in government. We have had enough of the economic abuses of the influential 1%. Our American heritage demands that we stand united against the tyranny of the super-rich. All Oswego residents are invited to join events, protests, and general assemblies.
